Dominican Republic beat Trinidad & Tobago
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic,

The Dominican Republic recovered from a shaky start and beat
Trinidad & Tobago 27-25, 25-13, 25- 23 in the last match of Sunday
at the Men’s Pan American Cup.
The athletic Trinidadians made a strong effort in the first set
and fought evenly against the host Dominicans who finally
prevailed with the serves and spikes of their star Elvis
Contreras.
Jose Caceres and Contreras had 12 and 10 points for Dominican
Republic and Eury Almonte added 9. Nolan Tash led all the scorers
with 15 points for Trinidad & Tobago.
“We are making adjustments with a new setter and some of us have
recently joined the team after playing abroad,” said Almonte. “But
we are confident to finish among the top three.”
On Monday, the Dominican Republic plays against Panama while
Trinidad & Tobago meets Cuba in Pool B. In Pool A, Mexico debuts
against Canada and Puerto Rico has a rest day.
